Join us for the unique chance to listen to distinguished Professor of Criminology and prolific author Alain Bauer talk to us, in English, about his life's work, and what he himself describes as mon métier, c'est la securité, la défense, le renseignement. Author of over one hundred books and as many articles, Mr. Bauer possesses an unparalleled knowledge of crime and criminology, war and conflict, as yet again revealed in his latest book Au commencement était la guerre (Éditions Fayard, March 2023).


Listen in as Alain Bauer, for whom peace is a truce between two wars, not the other way around, shares his point of view on the causes and consequences of the Ukraine conflict and what he deems as the end of la mondialisation heureuse.

It is not often that one comes across a biography as extensive as that of Alain Bauer - Grand Maître du Grand Orient de France (2000 - 2003) and recipient of the distinguished Commandeur de la Légion d'Honneur (2016), amongst numerous other renowned distinctions.


Professor and Chair of Criminology at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM), and of Police and Criminal Sciences at the National Gendarmery Academy, Mr. Bauer is Scientific Director of CNAM's Security and Defense CenterHe is a respected Senior Research Fellow at the Center of Terrorism of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, at Fudan University in Shanghai, the Chinese Criminal Police Academy as well as the Beijing Law University. Mr. Bauer is a Senior Lecturer at the Paris Institute of Criminology (Paris II), at the Universities of Paris I and V-René Descartes, amongst many other reputable institutions. 


A former advisor to Michel Rocard, Mr. Bauer was actively consulted by then acting French President Nicolas Sarkozy and later by French Prime Minister Manuel Valls on security and terrorism issues. He has notably held the positions of President of the National Council for Private Security Activities (2012 - 2017) and of the Orientation Council of the National Observatory of Delinquency (2003 - 2012). He is a consultant for the NYPD and the Los Angeles Sheriff Department and a member of the OECD Task Force on Illicit Trade and the EUROPOL Expert Group on Organized Crime. He currently serves as a Colonel (Air) in the Citizen's Reserve.


Author of over fifty books on crime and criminology, and forty something books on franc-maçonnerie, Mr. Bauer is Editor of Chief of the International Journal on Criminology
