In June, we had the distinction of hosting, for our monthly luncheon, Mr. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Chairman of the Board of Nestlé S.A., "the world's leading food company" and producer of Kit-Kat, Nescafé, and Perrier. He is famous for his “Food versus Fuel” position, his ecological stances, and for introducing unique brand marketing.
Mr. Brabeck-Letmathe has spent his entire career working for Nestlé, rising to the position of chief executive officer (CEO) in 1997 and also assuming duties as vice chairman of the board in 2001. He has turned Nestlé into the fastest-growing food company in an otherwise slow-growth sector, primarily by focusing on buying up leading food brands and discontinuing under-performing brands. Mr. Brabeck-Letmathe, who speaks five languages, is considered an articulate leader, whose a focus on substance over style includes a strong dedication to discipline and a long-term approach to growing a business.
Recently honored and decorated by Président Sarkozy and welcomed by President Bush, we had the unique privilege of meeting Mrs. Rosette PESCHAUD,

D-Day operation of June 6, 1944 brought together the land, air, and sea forces of the allied armies in what became known as the largest invasion force in human history.

The invasion force included 7,000 ships and landing craft manned by over 195,000 naval personnel from eight allied countries. Almost 133,000 troops from England, Canada, and the United States landed on D-Day. Among them were the General Philippe Leclerc and the Women of Valor: the Rochambelles.

The Rochambeau Group of ambulance drivers was formed in New York, trained in North Africa, and transported to Normandy to serve under General Patton in August 1944 with their unflinching courage and extraordinary sense of duty.

Special thanks to Sharon Golec and Emmanuel Leclerc-De-Hauteclocque for organizing this event.

Abdul Wahid al Nur, President of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), has moved his headquarters from Darfur to Paris and is presenting the situation at a lunch organised by the American Club of Paris.

Darfur, the roots of the Sudan crisis by Mr al NUR
envoyé par AmClubParis

In the summer of 2004 the genocide and massacres of Darfur burst into international prominence. U.N. statistics claim more than 300 000 people died in Darfur.

Although Mr. Abdul Walid al Nur has participated in 11 peace negotiations, he now refuses to join in the last Darfur Peace Agreement, despite pressures from the West.

His approach to leadership has made him popular with the victims although he refused fervently to negotiate before the 20,000 AU/UN hybrid forces arrive to insure a sustainable peace in Sudan. He is quoted to have said, "I want to be the president of my country - and this is my right and the right of my people. But I will not become president on the bones of my people."

He was born and raised in the dusty Darfur town of Zalingei in 1968, educated at the University of Khartoum in 1995, where he graduated with a law degree before working as a successful lawyer.

In 1989, he created the SLM in reaction to the increasingly violent, divisive, and forcefully Arabo-Islamist dictatorship of General Al-Bachir, who had seized power after dramatically losing elections with less than 10% of the votes. Thereafter, no national election was ever organized. The military wing of the SLM, the Sudan Liberation Army, was created in 2001.

He claims that his forces have ALWAYS targeted military actions and its human rights record is impeccable.

Thanks to Patrice VUILLARD for the video.
