Exhibition visit with the artist at Maison de l'Argentine - FRIDAY 14 September at 19h30 – champagne and softs
“Mother Earth – Maps” is a project which I have been working on for many years. It grows out of my “Maps of Memory” project that has been presented in many museums, cultural centers and galleries and deals
with similar themes. From time to time the project is enriched and em- bellished with new works that utilize new, original materials such as ge- ographic maps. Most recently these additions have also incorporated anatomic maps through new techniques which I devised. The underlying themes are identity, migration and the continuously evolving and trans- forming world.
This place from which we come is like a mother's womb. It is part of us and it imparts on us its traces. Our planet’s geography becomes our own anatomy. I start from the macrocosm, large size maps of 210 x 180 cm on which I position figures that walk, run and move. I present these figures, whose bodies are created by the contours of geographic maps, as links between broad territories and the intimate, integral anatomic maps of individuals. I construct sculptures using molds covered by geographic maps creating a sense of the journey, of peregrination.
This exhibition will take place in Paris with the support of Miguel Angel Estrella, founder of the Musica Esperanza Foundation, a humanitarian organization with over 50 offices around the world that promotes the importance of arts in social communication. The exhibit is also supported by Unesco and the Argentine Embassy, which is providing space within the Maison de l'Argentine on the beautiful campus of the Cité Universitarie.

Garden Party and Annual General Meeting
of
The American Club of Paris
June 20, 2012 at 7 pm
Mona Bismarck American Center for Art & Culture
34 avenue de New York, 75116 Paris
The American Club of Paris will hold its annual general meeting this year in the garden of the Mona Bismarck American Center for Art & Culture. The meeting, during which we will elect new board members and vote on revisions to the Club's constitution, will be followed by a Garden Party, where we will be serenaded by the Whiffenpoofs of Yale University.
The Whiffenpoofs are the oldest collegiate a cappella group in the United States, established in 1909. Best known for "The Whiffenpoof Song", based on a tune written by Tod Galloway (Amherst 1895) and adapted with lyrics by Meade Minnigerode (Yale 1910) & George S Pomeroy (Yale 1910), the group comprises college senior men who compete in the spring of their junior year for 14 spots in the group. The Whiffenpoofs have performed for generations at a number of venues, including Lincoln Center, the White House, the Salt Lake Tabernacle, Oakland Coliseum, Carnegie Hall and the Rose Bowl, as well as numerous locations throughout Europe. The group has also appeared on television shows such as Jeopardy!, The Today Show, Saturday Night Live, 60 Minutes, Gilmore Girls, and The West Wing. In December 2010, the group was featured on NBC's a cappella competition The Sing-Off.

May 10: “Experiencing Golf Poetry" - Leon S. White, PhD
Leon S. White, PhD
Tuesday, May 15 -7 :00 pm
“Experiencing Golf Poetry"
Read golf poetry out loud, It will lower your score; And if one poem doesn’t do it, Read two or three more!
A Little Golf History.” The first reference to golf is found in an Act of the Scottish Parliament in 1457 that bans the game! But the origins of the game are unknown. However, this didn’t stop an anonymous 19th century poet from giving us a charming version of the story in verse.
The earliest poem to include a reference to golf was published in Edinburgh in 1638. An Edinburgh medical student penned the first instructional golf poem in his diary in 1687. Furthermore, the first separately printed golf book was a 358-line mock-heroic poem first published in 1743.
For the last six years Leon White has been collecting poetry about golf, written by golfers¬ - a little known area of the golf literature. As his collection of poems increased, it became evident that reading these verses constituted a new way to experience all the attributes of the game. “I wanted to share what I had discovered with golf enthusiasts worldwide, so first I began developing a book and then I started writing a Blog. The book, Golf Course of Rhymes – Links between Golf and Poetry Through the Ages, with a Foreword by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., was published in 2011 and is available on Amazon.com. The Blog continues.”
Talk will be followed by a cocktail
Venue: AMERICAN GOLF STORE – 35 bis rue de l’abbé Grégoire -75006 Paris –www.americangolfparis.com- 7.00 PM to 9.00 PM. (Discount to American Club members on golf items in the shop)
