Sep 30: MESSAGE TO U.S. CITIZENS!!!
U.S. Election Countdown Less Than 40 Days to Vote !
Here are some useful tips on registering and voting by absentee ballot.
Q. Can I vote in-person at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate on Election Day?
There are no provisions for voting machines at U.S. embassies or consulates. You may not go to the embassy on Election Day to vote the way you do at home. You may only vote from abroad by using by mail absentee ballots.
Q. How do I register to vote, or apply for a by-mail absentee ballot?
To ensure that your ballot is counted, you must register now! Don’t wait or it will be too late.
You may register and request an absentee ballot with a single form: The Federal Post Card Application. This application form is accepted by all States and territories. Hard copies of the form can be obtained from a U.S. embassy or consulate by contacting us. Visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program website for further details. U.S. embassy and consular officials can witness election materials (if required), and provide other absentee voting assistance and information.
Q. When should I receive my by-mail absentee ballot?
States and territories are required to mail ballots 30 to 45 days before an election. If you have not received your ballot 30 days (October 6, 2012) before the election, contact your local election official (contact information available on most State election sites) or contact us. We can provide you with a back-up Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot.
Always complete and return your regular absentee ballot regardless of when you receive it, even if you have already submitted a back-up Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot. Your local election official will ensure that only one of the ballots is counted.

U.S. Embassy Paris, France
Security Message for U.S. Citizens
Increased Vigilance
Attacks on U.S. Embassies and Consulates on September 11, 2012
September 14, 2012
Given recent events in Libya, Yemen, and Egypt, the U.S. Mission to France and Monaco encourages all U.S. Citizens living in or visiting France and Monaco to review their personal security measures and adjust those measures as appropriate.
Although at this time there is no credible or specific threat to U.S. Citizens in France or Monaco or our diplomatic staff and facilities, a periodic reassessment and adjustment of your security habits and practices is always a good idea. We encourage all U.S. Citizens in France and Monaco to exercise common sense security measures. Be especially cautious if you must enter areas where you may be easily identified as a target of crime or violence. These include crowded subways, train stations, elevators, tourist sites, market places, festivals, and crime-ridden neighborhoods. Avoid public demonstrations and other civil disturbances.
If at any time you feel threatened or in danger, please call the French authorities immediately by dialing 1-1-2 for emergency service response from French police, rescue, and fire departments.
The State Department issued a Worldwide Caution on July 18, and we would like to take this opportunity to remind U.S. Citizens in France and Monaco that the U.S. government remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations, and other violent actions against U.S. Citizens and interests overseas.
Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, monitor local news stations for updates, and report specific incidences of violence targeting U.S. Citizens to the U.S. Embassy in Paris at the numbers below. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security. For additional information, please refer to "A Safe Trip Abroad.”
We strongly recommend that U.S. Citizens traveling to or residing in France and Monaco to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. Enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the Embassy or nearest consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
Regularly monitor the Department's website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for France and Monaco. Contact the embassy for up-to-date information on travel restrictions. You can also call 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada or 1-202-501-4444 from other countries. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays). Follow us on Twitter and Facebook, and download our free Smart Traveler iPhone App to have travel information at your fingertips.
The U.S. Embassy in Paris is located on Avenue Gabriel near the Place de la Concorde, and is open from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. If you are a U.S. Citizen in need of urgent assistance, the emergency number for the Embassy is (33) (0)1 43 12 22 22.

Nov 24: Thanksgiving message from Joe Smallhoover
Dear Friends and Fellow American Club Members,
Much is written about the importance of this great holiday, so I will be brief.
Benjamin Franklin, the forefather of our Club, thought that the turkey should be the national emblem and not the eagle for reasons to long to repeat here. But whether you will be celebrating with friends and family at home today or with the American Club of Paris on Friday evening, the turkey, dressing and all that goes with it reminds us all of how much we have to be thankful for.
Aside from all the obvious things, I am grateful for the efforts that our volunteers and Committee Members put in to keeping our Club vibrant.
On behalf of the Club's Executive Committee, I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
Joe Smallhoover
President
