The Benjamin Franklin Circle is a committee of supporters of the American Club of Paris, who contribute to the Club to further our efforts to develop Franco-American friendship, and encourage political, intellectual, and cultural exchanges between the United States and France. It provides a forum in which Americans, French, and people of all nationalities having an interest in the United States, can join together to exchange ideas and promote better understanding of the United States, the American people, and Franco-American relations.
The Circle is named after Benjamin Franklin, who initiated the tradition of exchanges between the Americans and the French in Paris by organizing dinners at his house in Passy at the time of the American Revolution. Franklin is indeed the spiritual founder of our Club. His activities were known for developing friendship between France and the United States at the time (of the birth of our nation) and the Benjamin Franklin Circle continues his tradition.
Except for Contributing Members, participants in the Benjamin Franklin Circle need not be members of the Club. While Club membership is of course reserved for individuals, membership in the Benjamin Franklin Circle is open to companies and individuals who wish to support the important activities of the American Club of Paris. Several years ago, the Club initiated the commemorative plaque program to place plaques on buildings in Paris where Americans of renown have resided or where important events to Franco-American relations have taken place. The Club is committed to supporting such community service activities to the extent of the resources available.
